Marston’s agrees pub deal with Morecambe FC

Morecambe FC has exchanged contracts to sell a vacant plot in front of its stadium, Globe Arena, to Marston's for a new pub.

Globe Arena opened in 2010 following relocation from nearby Christie Park, which was sold to Sainsbury's for a 40,000 sq ft supermarket.

The League Two club said the sale to Marston's was subject to planning consent being granted. An application will be submitted to Lancaster City Council by the end of March.

The 180-cover pub restaurant will be situated to the west of Christie Way, in front of the arena, named after Globe Construction, which built the stadium.

Peter McGuigan, chairman of Morecambe FC, said: "The club is particularly pleased that the prestigious development on this prominent corner site will bring to life what is currently a vacant piece of land.

"It will enhance the entrance to the Globe Arena and we hope that it will also be a catalyst in the further development of the land around the Globe Arena and another important milestone in the regeneration of the West End of Morecambe."

Tina Moorhouse, acquisitions manager of Marston's, said: "We look forward to working with the football club and local community to build a great reputation locally. Our proposals are to offer top quality, value for money pub food and a great selection of drinks, including cask ales from our five regional breweries across the UK."
