The latest documentary short film from the Manchester Vision project, run by production company Riverhorse, focuses on the work of Ancoats-based Mustard Tree.
The Manchester Vision project is a not-for-profit initiative that produces monthly films on people, organisations and campaigns that are seeking to create positive social change in the wider city region. The Mustard Tree charity provides life support to homeless, marginalised and vulnerable communities across the city by providing food, clothing, furniture and training.
Established 16 years ago, the organisation recently set up a community interest company called StandFirm, which aims to provide employment to those facing barriers to employment for various reasons including homelessness, addiction and crime.
It also provides StandFirm staff with opportunities to learn new skills, thus building their confidence and improving their chances of finding further employment upon their progression. The latest Manchester Vision film focuses on the Stand Firm project and the opportunities it is providing.
Manchester Vision project director Mike Todd explained why the Mustard Tree was chosen to feature in the latest film: "The Mustard Tree does fantastic work and helps create real, positive change in the lives of people facing some of the most difficult challenges imaginable. The work they do is really worthy of recognition."
As a locally based charity The Mustard Tree is dependent on the support and kindness of the city's community. The lead up to Christmas can often be one of the most difficult times for marginalised people.
There are a range of ways for people to get involved including donations of finance and resources, volunteering your skills and time, helping raise awareness and campaigning.
