David Lynch has been named as director for development & estates as part of the city council’s growth and development team.

Lynch, who will start in the role in March 2022, is currently assistant director for regeneration at Bury Council.

Having started there as recently as early 2021, his work at Bury includes leading on programmes including two successful Levelling Up Fund bids, putting together a 2,000-home brownfield housing delivery programme and setting up joint venture partnerships with Muse Developments and Bruntwood.

At MCC, Lynch will be tasked with working with developers and investors on live projects while identifying future development opportunities to attract new investment into Manchester.

Lynch spent a nine-year spell with Urban Splash, before a year at Gerald Eve. This was followed by five years with Placefirst, rising to the position of head of regeneration & land.

He said: “Manchester has been an incredibly exciting city to live and work in and I am looking forward to continuing to support and add value to its continued economic growth.

“Working with our partners on pioneering projects has the potential to transform the cityscape but we know that there is more opportunity.”

Cllr Bev Craig, leader elect of Manchester City Council, said: “The pandemic has hit city economies hard and our route to recovery is paved by driving sustainable growth to fuel economic prosperity in the coming years.

“Manchester has an ambitious programme of development which will underpin this recovery but spotting opportunities to support our continued growth will be essential in the coming years. We look forward to working with David on this shared journey.”
