Marcus Worthington Properties has gained planning permission for a £22m student accommodation development in Manchester city centre.
The 125,000 sq ft scheme will be based at Moss Lane East, on the corner of the Oxford Road and Wilmslow Road in the heart of the university district.
The site is currently a derelict car park with disused manufacturing buildings detracting from the appearance and character of the area.
The proposals involve 416 en-suite bedrooms arranged in clusters of between four and six, with a shared common room and kitchen for each cluster.
The building will also comprise an entrance/reception area, office, games room, laundry, plant areas and bins stores, as well as forming a private and secure internal courtyard with 15 parking spaces and communal amenity space.
Russ Worthington, development director at Marcus Worthington, said: "We're delighted to have gained permission and we hope to start on site early in the new year. Without the help and support of Manchester City Council and local ward members, this scheme would not have been possible and would have continued to be an underutilized area of Manchester city centre."
The architects appointed for the scheme was Hodder & Partners.
Drivers Jonas Deloitte advised Marcus Worthington Properties on the planning application which was submitted at the end of April.
