Manchester decamps Town Hall for Spinningfields

Manchester City Council will move 1,800 Town Hall staff to offices in Spinningfields for up to five years while the historic home of the authority is refurbished.

The council has a £150m programme of works that includes the Town Hall, St Peter's Square and Central Library.

The council is expected to use Quay and Manchester Houses in Allied London's commercial district for its HQ while the programme of improvements is carried out.

A report to go before the council's cabinet next week recommends the use of Spinningfields on cost and quality grounds, supported by the findings of a search by GVA Grimley, the council's retained commercial property adviser.
