Major Mercedes-Benz dealership set for Kingmoor enterprise zone

Plans for a major new Mercedes-Benz dealership and showroom at Carlisle’s Kingmoor Park enterprise zone have been given the green light.

Sytner Group has purchased a five-acre site on Spellar Way, which fronts the A689, and plans to build a 40,000 sq ft showroom, workshop and MOT centre. There will also be customer parking, landscaping and an extensive external display area.

It is understood that a main contractor is yet to be appointed to the scheme, which is due to get underway by the end of the year. The development is expected to open in early 2019. Ayshford Sansome is the architect.

Property consultants Carigiet Cowen acted for Kingmoor Park on the land sale.

Ross Nicolson, chief executive of Kingmoor Park, said: “To undertake such a substantial, high quality development is a demonstration of the confidence the company has in Cumbria’s premier business location.

“It will also increase footfall and vehicle numbers in the locality which will mean many more people accessing the site and seeing first-hand what Kingmoor Park has to offer”.

Sytner is one of the first business to move to Kingmoor Park, which was awarded enterprise zone status in April last year.

Kingmoor Park said that there were “many other companies” looking to relocate to the site, including a national petrol station forecourt operator, a pub chain, and a number of energy companies.

Is this really what was envisaged for Enterprise Zones?

By M6

If only the state would get out of the way with its pesky planning rules and business taxes, private enterprise will be unleashed. Or so went the mantra of Osborne and Cameron back in 2011. A failed policy from the 80s, recycled and failing once again; not even the airport city enterprise zone can be considered a success.
