Major housing development approved for Bolton

The £260m mixed-use redevelopment of the 187-acre former Horwich Loco Works site has been given the go-ahead by Bolton Council.

Working on behalf of Horwich Vision, a partnership between Bluemantle and Orbit Developments, Manchester-based HOW Planning submitted a hybrid planning application earlier this year and approval paves the way for the residential-led scheme to be brought forward for development.

The consent is for 1,700 new homes, 18,000 sq ft of employment space, local shops, community and health facilities and major areas of public open space and supporting infrastructure.

HOW Planning worked with masterplanners Cass Associates, CBO Transport, Tyler Grange and ROC to develop the proposals.

Lucky these old railway workshops weren’t listed buildings. Sorry, what’s that, Oh they were! Well never mind,eh!

I expect of course, being a Bolton development, these will be Passivhous or similar exciting new eco aware designs – not your typical kingspan and hope wimpy houses?
