Main contractor needed for new Blackburn College building

Blackburn College is seeking a main contractor for the construction of a new phase three building on the college's main campus in Feilden Street.

Although details of the size and the costs will be developed during the first stage tender, it is estimated the new building will be 80,000sq ft-90,000 sq ft and the construction cost between £13m and £16m.

Blackburn College hope to appoint the main contractor, to work with the design team, to submit a detailed planning application by January 2010.

Deadline for submitting tenders is 12pm on Friday 4 December this year.

In the summer, North West contractors Bardsley Construction completed the construction of The University Centre for Blackburn College, which was a one-acre site just off Barbara Castle Way. The eco-friendly building has facilities for rainwater harvesting and solar heating as well as a host of landscaped areas.
