Machine Mart picks Edward Symmons for ratings work

Edward Symmons' Liverpool team has been appointed by the tools and equipment retailer to act on its behalf in the 2010 Rating Revaluation.

The instruction will see Edward Symmons seek ways of reducing the annual business rates costs by challenging new rating assessments that were introduced in April.

Machine Mart has 56 branches across the UK with a ratable value of more than £1.75m.

David King, ratings specialist in Edward Symmons' Liverpool team, said: "Machine Mart, like many businesses, has recognised the need to ensure that their property costs, of which business rates form a large part, are kept to an absolute minimum.

"Rates are a major outgoing for organisations, large and small, but substantial savings can be made and these can prove critical for businesses – particularly in the current market."
