Mace takes space at 42 Fountain Street

The construction company is leaving its Castlefield home after 20 years and will move to the heart of the city’s central business district.

Mace is taking 3,455 sq ft on the top floor of 42 Fountain Street, which is wrapping up a refurbishment and opening this week.

Mace is an international consultancy, as well as a construction company, and has operated in Manchester for more than 20 years. It helped restore the Royal Exchange Theatre after the 1996 IRA bomb, project managed the 2002 Commonwealth Games and worked with New East Manchester to manage the Sharp Building transformation.  Mace is currently project managing the £330m Manchester Town Hall renovation.

“The new offices for Mace in the city centre is an important and strategic move for us as we deliver on our 2026 business strategy ambitions,” said Mace chief executive officer of consultancy Jason Millett. “We have been working with clients across the region for over 20 years and we remain committed to supporting the government’s devolution and levelling up agendas as we play our part in supporting the UK’s post-Covid recovery.”

Mace’s director for the North, Colin Harvey, praised 42 Fountain Street’s public transport links, saying that it helped the company in its mission to reduce carbon emissions.

“We have a thriving business in Manchester and the wider region, working across a range of sectors from healthcare, education, housing, local and central government, transport, aviation and commercial offices and we look forward to continuing to support clients meet their ambitions,” he said.

Avison Young and Sixteen Real Estate are the joint agents for 42 Fountain Street, which has more than 22,000 sq ft of office space spread across seven storeys, as well as a fitness studio and wellbeing facilities.

“Being in the property industry, Mace requires the highest standard in their office fit-out and have an eye for detail, so we’re delighted they were attracted to 42 Fountain Street,” said Matt Pickersgill, associate director at Avison Young.

“Leasing the space pre-completion is testament to the quality of the design and finishes that 42 Fountain Street has to offer and we expect to see good levels of interest over the coming months following the post-completion launch of the building this week.”

Colliers acted on behalf of Mace in the deal.
