Lovell to build Cosmopolitan homes

Morgan Sindall's affordable housing subsidiary Lovell has been picked by Cosmopolitan Housing Association to build a £3.5m scheme at Rice Lane in Egremont, Wirral.

Work will start in December on the development of 34 new homes and refurbishment of two existing properties. All of the housing will be for affordable rent. The new homes will include two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows.

The development is set to be completed in 2012. Homes will meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system for assessing properties' environmental performance. Solar panels will be used to provide hot water for the new-build homes. The housing will also meet the Lifetime Homes standard by providing accessible, adaptable accommodation and Secured by Design standards through the incorporation of security measures into their design and construction.

Geoff Redhead, Cosmopolitan Housing Group chief executive says: "The need for affordable housing, whether for rent or sale, has never been greater and we are pleased to be helping to meet this need at Rice Lane with the support of Wirral Council and funding from the Homes & Communities Agency. All the tenants for these properties will be nominated through Wirral Council and we are looking forward to welcoming them to their new homes."
