Lovell starts building Liverpool housing scheme

Construction of a housing project which benefited from £3.4m of Kickstart funding from the Homes & Communities Agency has got underway in Netherley, Liverpool.

Birkenhead-based Lovell is building 67 new homes comprising of two, three and four bedroom houses and two bedroom bungalows, on two sites at Hartopp Road and Viennese Road.

Lovell said 37 homes will be available for social rent, ten will be for shared ownership and 20 homes will be offered for open market sale.

The development is expected to be completed by spring 2011.

An event to mark the start of building work brought together representatives from the Lee Valley Residents Association, the Childwall Valley Estate Management Board, Riverside, the HCA, Liverpool City Council, Lovell, and Maria Eagle, who is a local MP.

Neil Townsend, divisional director for Riverside, said: "We have been working with people in Netherley and Belle Vale since 2003 to regenerate the area. The community is very supportive of our plans to improve neighbourhoods. This exciting new development is the next stage in its continuing renewal. We are proud to work with all our partners, tenants and residents and look forward to securing more investment into the area."

Nigel Yates, Lovell regional director, added: "We are proud to be working with the local community and Riverside to deliver the scheme which will create energy-efficient new rented homes, shared ownership properties and homes for sale."
