Lottery to fund OMI’s Bolton church scheme

Bolton's Grade II*-listed All Souls' Church has been awarded £3.3m by the Heritage Lottery Fund towards conversion into a new community centre.

Manchester-based OMI Architects designed the scheme which will see pews removed and replaced by two pods, one each side of the church's original aisle. The pods will be covered in a combination of sandstone, polished plaster and copper alloy.

The Churches Conservation Trust, led by Loyd Grossman, maintains the church and developed the plans along with the All Souls Compton Community Centre.

The new space will house meeting rooms, conference facilities, a library, exhibition space and classrooms. Work is due to begin on site in spring 2010 with completion by the end of 2011.
