Liverpool Waters project manager to depart and reunite with former boss

Phil Jones, a key figure in the delivery of Peel L&P’s £5bn waterfront regeneration, is leaving the company to link up with Darran Lawless at Placefirst.

In April, Lawless left Peel to join Placefirst. He was replaced by Chris Capes after more than three years as development director.

Now, Jones is to become the second senior member of Peel’s Liverpool Waters team to leave for Placefirst this year.

He is due to take up his new role as project manager in December.

Jones joined Peel as project manager from Turner & Townsend in June 2018.

In December 2020, he was promoted to senior project manager by Lawless, a role that saw him head up the Liverpool Waters project.

Jones will be replaced by Chris Foran, who joined Peel as senior project manager at Wirral Waters in September.

Both Peel and Placefirst confirmed Jones’ departure but declined to comment further when contacted by Place North West.

Is this good or bad news depending on the lack of developments so far and general lack of investment?

Not sure what’s going on at Peel, if it wasn’t for Everton the whole Liverpool Waters Scheme would still be nothing put a set of suave renderings with nothing coming to fruit

Peel announced Liverpool Waters in March 2007 if I recall correctly. I appreciate the overall concept is ambitious, but we are now 14 years into the initial supposed 30 year plan, so next year it should be half way there?
