Liverpool Shanghai pavilion spend passes £1m

River Media has won a £550,000 contract to create a series of films to showcase the city and North West region during the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

It is the third major contract awarded as the city prepares for the six-month show, which runs from spring to autumn next year.

A £600,000 design and build contract was awarded to Uniform to create the pavilion and public relations agency Paver Smith is handling the communications contract, believed to be valued at £100,000.

All three contractors are based in Liverpool.

Liverpool Pavilion - World Expo 2010River Media, based on Wood Street, was awarded the work following an international competitive tendering process.

The company will create a 3-D virtual journey from Shanghai to Liverpool, along with a range of audio-visual content which will be used to entertain and inform visitors to the Liverpool Pavilion at the Expo.

The Pavilion will shine a spotlight on the city's assets and strengths for millions of visitors attending one of the world's biggest events.

Liverpool is the only UK city to have a dedicated presence at the World Expo. Its participation is being led by Liverpool Vision in partnership with Liverpool City Council, the Liverpool-Shanghai Partnership and the North West Development Agency.

The pavilion is 25 metres long by 18.5 metres wide – about the size of a five-a-side football pitch.
