Liverpool DPD depot approved

Developer St Modwen has been granted planning permission for a 69,000 sq ft distribution unit for parcel delivery firm DPD at the Stonebridge Industrial Estate in Fazakerley.

The £12m scheme on Sugarbrook Drive is on a 6.7-acre grassland site in the South West corner of the estate.

The development will include a distribution facility, in addition to parking and service yards.

DPD is a subsidiary of French firm GeoPost subsidiary. DPD currently has a depot in Triumph Business Park in Speke as well as locations across Manchester.

Construction is due to start on site in March 2015 and will be completed by early 2016. DPD will take a 25-year lease.

Pegasus Planning Group advised St Modwen.

The Liverpool facility is one of three new sites that St Modwen is delivering for DPD, with 60,000 sq ft depots currently being developed at Skypark in Exeter and Etruria Valley in Stoke-on-Trent.

A development agreement with Liverpool City Council will see St Modwen develop a further four acres of land for additional employment uses at Stonebridge Park.

Steven Knowles, regional director of St Modwen, said: "This latest agreement not only brings investment into the region, but also creates significant employment opportunities for the area. Stonebridge Park is a fantastic location for DPD and will be well situated to serve the region. Our income-producing properties continue to generate a strong revenue stream for our business in the North, with a rent roll in excess of £9.1m last year, and this consent will enable us to further strengthen and grow this offer in the region."
