Liverpool City Region offers £15m for brownfield schemes

The combined authority hopes the projects will create up to 4,000 new homes for the region.

Finances for the open call come from the £45m the region received from the Government’s Brownfield Land Fund. The funds are expected to be used for site remediation. Any registered provider, private sector or charitable body can apply for the money.

Funding decisions will be based on the region’s Housing Investment Strategy, which calls for high quality and high-value residential development in St Helens, Halton and south Knowsley. It also prioritises higher density family housing in Liverpool city centre, Wirral Left Bank and North Docks.

Other key parts of the strategy including creating multi-tenure housing in North Liverpool, South Sefton and North Knowsley, as well as residential developments around town centres. Successful schemes will likely also offer energy-efficient properties (EPC Band B and above) and houses that are accessible.

Already, the authority has given more than £11m to seven different projects, which have collectively promised to deliver 886 homes. Those sites, along with how much they received, are as follows:

  • Paddington Village, Liverpool: £3.6m
  • House of Fraser Building, Wirral: £2.2m
  • Moss Nook, St Helens: £2m
  • Halton Court, Halton: £1.8m
  • Buckley Hill, Sefton: £1m
  • Foundry Lane, Halton: £400k
  • Denford Road, Liverpool: £280k

The remaining £18m in the Brownfield Land Fund is dedicated towards council-led land acquisitions and projects.
