Liverpool 2 contracts awarded

Construction contractor Bam Nuttall and dredger Van Oord have won contracts worth £75m with Peel Ports as part of the £300m Liverpool 2 mid-river container terminal in the Mersey.

The Bam Nuttall part includes designing and building the new 854 metre quay wall, installing quay crane rails and laying a new road. Van Oord will dredge 500,000 cubic metres of materials using a combination of water injection dredging and backhoe dredger Goliath, the largest backhoe dredger in Europe.

Douglas Coleman, programme director at Peel Ports, said: "The Bam Nuttall/Van Oord JV secured the package of work amidst an intense environment of competition."

Peel Ports named Lend Lease as the main contractor for the deep-water container terminal last year.
