List of Tesco closures released

Tesco has announced the list of 43 stores across the country that it is planning to close, including a superstore in Wrexham and a Homeplus in Chester.

In a statement earlier this month the supermarket giant said that it would be closing several loss-making outlets after a "disappointing performance", and would not be progressing with 49 planned store developments.

This included the proposed 140,000 sq ft store in Knowsley, which was part of the £200m regeneration of Kirkby town centre.

In the North West, Tesco is expected to close the superstore in Dodds Lane, Wrexham, and a Homeplus in Chester.

Metro branches due to close are: Bootle, Merseyside; Morecambe and Ormskirk, Lancashire; Runcorn, Cheshire.

Two smaller Tesco Express outlets at Liverpool Kensington and Heaton Chapel are also on the list of closures.

How can we ensure that that the Heaton Chapel building, which was a public house, is restored to community use?

Apply for it to be an Asset of Community Value through Stockport MBC? This is what hads been achieved with The Savoy (although this is a cinema and not a shop).

Shame about Tesco, they did a nice job on their store layouts / appearances over the last few years. Staff seemed alright as well, unlike ASDA, with their 1990s store layouts, nutty staff and cram-it-in floor layouts. There’s more obstacles within the first 10 yards of an ASDA store than a tough mudder course…
