Lime Street redevelopment takes shape

The first sections of steel have been erected at the site of the £39m mixed-use project by Ion Developments, Sigma and Liverpool City Council.

Main contractor ISG is delivering the scheme that will include 28,000 sq ft of retail and leisure, a 412-bed student block and a 101-room Premier Inn hotel.

Steel supplier Billington Structures is installing 1,300 tonnes of steel to create 11 storeys of student accommodation and a three-storey hotel building. The structures will emerge from behind the site hoardings over the next few months, with the skeletal frames expected to be completed in the autumn. Billingtons sourced 100% British steel.

The development replaces a row of shops and the Futurist Cinema which local residents and heritage campaigners tried in vain to save from demolition.

The overall project is due for completion in July 2018. The designers are Broadway Malyan and IBI Group.
