Light Cinemas signs in Bolton

The Light Cinemas will operate the new cinema in Bolton's Market Place Shopping Centre.

The Light is an independent, digital cinema operator founded by former Warner Village property director John Sullivan and UGC / Cineworld development director Keith Pullinger. The group's first cinema opened in Bucharest in 2008, with the UK debut in 2011 at New Brighton's Marine Point.

Developer Moorgarth obtained planning permission for a nine-screen cinema earlier this year at Market Place Shopping Centre.

Tim Vaughan, chief executive of Moorgarth, said: "A strong partnership with the Light Cinemas will add to the reinvigoration of the centre and provide a unique viewing experience for the people of Bolton and visitors to the centre from further afield."

Vaughan added: "The addition of a cinema together with a range of very exciting food operators will greatly benefit Market Place and Bolton town centre as a whole."

Phil Dove, head of UK operations for the Light Cinemas, said: "This is a great opportunity for us to create a cinema that is unique to Bolton.

"The Light Cinemas believe that the local community should stand at the helm of our independent cinemas. We're always keen to work with local suppliers and wish for the community to feel that they own and run the cinema – we're always happy to hear suggestions from local residents, this is their cinema as much as it is ours."

The Light Cinema Bolton is due to open in early 2015. Construction is due to start in the coming weeks.
