Leese takes on Salford role

Central Salford urban regeneration company has added Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, to its board.

The move may be viewed with irony by some given the competition that existed between the two cities over such projects as the BBC relocation, ultimately won by Salford Quays.

But with Central Salford also covering the areas along the River Irwell which border Manchester city centre, Salford's regeneration will undoubtedly have economic benefits for Manchester.

Felicity Goodey, chairman of Central Salford said: "The Board of Central Salford has made no secret of the fact that the future of the area is closely linked to the continuing development of Manchester as a great European city. The cities of Salford and Manchester enjoy a unique relationship which will be significantly enhanced by Sir Richard joining our board."
