Manchester at MIPIM has launched its campaign for MIPIM 2018, with city council leader Sir Richard Leese confirming that he will be attending the international property conference in Cannes for the whole week.
Representatives from Manchester’s public and private sectors traditionally turn out in force to the annual convention, with Manchester making up the second largest delegation when the conference was last held in March. More than 110 partners, and 230 delegates, went under the Manchester at MIPIM banner in 2017.
Former Manchester City Council chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein was a prominent figure and vocal promoter of the city at MIPIM, and since he departed earlier this year his various roles have been divided between other figures within the council. Leese has typically not flown out to Cannes for the event; this year he instead represented the city at tech convention South by Southwest in Texas.
It is not yet confirmed whether Bernstein’s replacement, Joanne Roney, will be attending MIPIM.
Speaking at a launch event held by Marketing Manchester yesterday evening, Leese said MIPIM was the major area where the city could deliver its internationalisation strategy, and provided the opportunity for Manchester to promote itself and outshine any other city in the world.
He pointed to the strength of the public-private partnership to enable the city to turn out in such force, with an expectation that Manchester’s increasingly high number of sponsoring businesses would continue next year.
Marketing Manchester confirmed that the stand would be in the same location as 2017; a 5,000 sq ft beachside pavilion on the Croissette.
The tent will include the theatre, terrace, digital exhibition, and café found at the last MIPIM, but has also agreed to take additional outdoor seating space to allow for more networking.
The pavilion will be open from 8am to 11pm.
Manchester at MIPIM partners will have the opportunity to submit an event proposal which, if successful, will be adopted into the official Manchester programme of events.
