LCCC begins work on Hilton hotel

PP O’Connor has started the demolition of Old Trafford Lodge and Development House at Lancashire County Cricket Club, to make way for a 150-bedroom Hilton Garden Inn.

The hotel at the corner of Brian Statham Way and Talbot Road will include a café, ticket office, restaurant and bar, and has a total development cost of £12m.

The architect on the scheme is Glasgow-based Ica.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority agreed to provide a £5m loan to Lancashire County Cricket Club from the Greater Manchester Growth and Growing Places funds in 2015, with match funding secured from Trafford Council. The club also raised £3m through a retail bond launch.

Daniel Gidney, LCCC’s chief executive, said: “The Old Trafford Lodge has played a very crucial role for the venue over the years but with the growth of our conference and events business the time is now right for us construct a four-star 150-bedroom, state-of-the-art hotel which will enhance the magnificent cricket and conference and events facilities we already have at Emirates Old Trafford.

“The hotel will open in the summer of 2017 to welcome the South African and West Indies cricket teams to Emirates Old Trafford and we would like to thank all our visitors for their patience during this period of construction.”
