Lawyers’ new venture picks up Atticus

Manchester lawyers Jim Truscott and Matt Fleetwood have left Fieldfisher to establish the Beyond professional services group, which has immediately taken a majority stake in corporate law boutique Atticus.

The firm is based in Castlefield House, Liverpool Road. Atticus’ 13-strong team has been rebranded under the Beyond banner with partner Kevin Philbin assuming the role of executive chairman.

The deal gives Beyond its first core business, focussed on providing legal services to entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial businesses. Further acquisitions of stakes in complementary businesses are planned.

Truscott told Place North West: “The work Matt and I do links with a lot of commercial property work and it’s fair to say we’ll be looking at opportunities in the sector sooner rather than later.”

He added: “Beyond is about a better way of delivering customer experience with a clear brand message. We’re starting out from a strong capital base and have invested significantly in technology and the human capital side of the business, within a structure which is fit for purpose in a modern professional services environment.

“Atticus is a natural fit for us, with its approach to client service and long-term relationships. We talk the same language – serious lawyers who don’t take themselves too seriously.”
