Lane End eyes February start date on Wigan homes

Developer and housebuilder Lane End is targeting a February 2018 start for a housing project on land formerly home to Whelley Hospital in Wigan, after gaining planning approval last month.

The 38-home project on Bradshaw Street, designed by PRP Architects, will be delivered by Lane End alongside housing association Adactus.

The housing mix includes five three-bed bungalows for shared ownership; 24 two-bed homes for rent; and nine three-bed homes for shared ownership.

The 2.4 acre brownfield site was previously home to the Whelley Hospital, which was demolished in 2010. Access to the site will be via Bradshaw Street.

Lane End plans to start work in early February, commencing a 13-month construction programme which will complete in March 2019. Alongside PRP, the professional team includes WSP as environmental consultant.

The developer’s latest project with Adactus is its second on the former hospital site. Plans for a three-storey, 80-bed care home, also designed by PRP, were approved in 2016.
