Land Law names Richards as partner
The Altrincham-based commercial property law specialist has promoted Tim Richards to partner, following his two years serving as associate partner at the firm.
Richards becomes the tenth partner at Land Law, which he joined in 2018 from rival law firm Addleshaw Goddard where he was managing associate. Prior to that, he worked at Hill Dickinson and DWF in Manchester.
Richards, a transactional real estate lawyer, works with developers and investors in the industrial, retail and office sectors.
He has worked on notable deals, including confectioner Swizzels Matlow’s acquisition of 158,000 sq ft facility speculative warehouse at the Ma6nitude industrial park in Middlewich, which is being developed by Tritax Symmetry.
He also advised property investor Hollins Murray Group in its £3.6m acquisition of a grade two-listed office building in Cheadle, Haw Bank House, from developer and landowner Bruntwood.
Land Law’s founder and managing partner, Angus Whyte, said Richards has made “remarkable progress” since he joined the firm, helping to win new business and becoming “a trusted advisor” to existing clients.
He added that a six-figure investment in IT, including transferring essential functions and documents to a bespoke cloud structure, has enabled Land Law to cope with the challenges posed by the coronavirus lockdown.
“Given how such a traditionally document-heavy sector as commercial property has been affected by the global shutdown, that technological edge has allowed us to overcome potential difficulties and develop further solutions to help clients,” Whyte said.
He added: “The economic effects of the pandemic have been so far-reaching that it’s almost impossible to predict what the sector will look like a year from now, although a restructuring of client portfolios is likely, as investors and developers come to terms with what exactly has happened to their stock.
“Nevertheless, I believe that we are in as good a position as possible with a strong team of experienced and capable lawyers and an agile system.”
Land Law currently employs 42 staff.
