Laing O’Rourke to deliver Everton’s £500m stadium

The company has been appointed as Everton Football Club’s preferred contractor for its 52,000-seater stadium on Liverpool’s waterfront.

Denise Barrett-Baxendale, chief executive of Everton FC, said: “Appointing Laing O’Rourke is another important step towards delivering a new world-class waterfront stadium for Everton.

“There is still a lot of work to do on this project. Working alongside Laing O’Rourke will develop our construction programme, while at the same time continuing to engage with our supporters on a number of matters as we await our planning application to be determined by Liverpool City Council.”

The contractor will now sign the pre-construction services agreement for a design and build contract and agree the delivery programme.

In December, Everton revealed its final designs ahead of submitting a planning application to the council. A decision on the plans is expected in the summer. Subject to gaining planning approval, work will start on the stadium later this year and take three years to complete.

The stadium will sit within Bramley-Moore Dock, part of Peel L&P’s £5bn Liverpool Waters development. The architect is Dan Meis of Meis Studio.

Everton has said the design takes its inspiration from the historic maritime and warehouse buildings nearby.

The stadium underwent two years of consultation, and over the course of the period, some aspects of the design were altered. This included the plans for a multi-storey car park, which has been relocated from its previously proposed waterfront location and integrated within the stadium.

The club’s plans include the redevelopment of the existing Goodison Park stadium into a community facility for Everton FC’s charity, Everton in the Community. Laing O’Rourke will also work on this project along with Condy Lofthouse Architects.
