Joint venture plans 43-acre retail development in Salford

Peel Group and Salford City Council have combined to open a new development in Barton.

The first phase of road infrastructure, which will provide access between the new site and the Trafford Centre, is due to complete in the summer of 2014.

The second phase of road works will improve access to the M60 and is due to complete by the following summer.

The development area is divided into seven plots ranging from 0.5 to 20 acres.

Planning permission has already been granted for 230,000 sq ft of bulky goods retail.

Ed Burrows, property director of Peel, said: "The site will benefit from easy accessibility as well as high visibility from the M60 at Barton Bridge."

Ian Stewart, Salford city mayor, said: "This is a prime site that is set to undergo significant redevelopment in the next couple of years.

"It will bring new job opportunities for Salford people when we really need them. Businesses can thrive in Salford and we will do what we can as a local authority to support those who want to invest in the area."

The joint venture company is hoping to attract a variety of occupiers from retail, showrooms, trade, leisure, hotels, restaurants and pubs.
