John Turner wins £10m Bolton engineering centre brief

The University of Bolton has named the main contractor to build a £10m Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering, as part of its science, technology, engineering and mathematics facility.

John Turner Construction will build the facility at the university’s Deane Road campus, which will include a National Centre for Motorsport & Engineering with a focus on high performance cars. It will also have sports facilities for use by the university, the technical college and Bolton Sixth Form College.

The current CAPE centre will be used for teaching and studio space by other departments.

Work on the project is due to begin this spring, with a targeted completion date of September 2016 in time for the next academic year.

The contract value to John Turner is £7.5m.
