John Turner appointed to £7.5m Heathlands project

The John Turner Construction Group is set to start work on the first phase of a £7.5m redevelopment of the Heathlands Village care complex in Prestwich, Bury.

The initial stage of the project involves remodelling internal communal areas and landscaping external spaces to create a modern communal hub for residents, their families and the wider community.

It is part of a wider strategy to establish a centre of excellence for the care of older people on the site.

Karen Phillips, chief executive of social care charity The Fed, which runs Heathlands Village, said: "This project will enable us to deliver high quality, 21st century care in a state-of-the-art environment.

"Most importantly, it will allow our residents to live their lives to the full in surroundings which will enhance their wellbeing and dignity and maximise their independence.

"Following an extensive tendering process, we're very pleased to be working in partnership with JTCG in transforming Heathlands Village, and are confident that they will help us achieve our aims."

The scheme has been designed by Manchester-based architect Buttress Fuller Allsop Williams.

Mechanical & electrical works have been designed by SI Sealy with the works on site due to be installed by Lewis Facilities, Oldham.

Heathlands Village is a five-acre care complex which includes services for people of all ages.

The site houses a children's centre, a community centre, as well as residential, nursing and end-of-life care facilities for older people.

The latter includes a GP surgery, physiotherapist, hair dressing salon, village shop and recreational therapy which all significantly help residents and users enjoy the very best quality of life.
