Jim Gill takes chair at Commercial BID

Jim Gill has been appointed as the new chairman of the Liverpool Commercial District Business Improvement District.

The former chief executive of economic development agency Liverpool Vision replaces previous chairman David Guest and interim chairman Ed Oliver.

Gill will be tasked with running the operating board and ultimately ensuring the business plan is being delivered, gearing up for a re-ballot in 2016. He will also represent Commercial District BID as a member of the overall executive board for the Liverpool BID Company.

Gill is chairman of Professional Liverpool, chairman of the Chrysalis Fund, the urban development investor, and a consultant.

Liverpool currently has two BIDs: City Central, which covers the retail core of the city centre excluding Liverpool One; and the Commercial District around Catsle Street, Water Street and Old Hall Street.

BIDs aim to improve specific areas through a variety of activities such as marketing and events, cleaning and lobbying for transport improvements. BIDs are funded through a levy on business rates for companies in the defined area.

Gill said: "It's an absolute honour to take on a role that enables me to work with and represent over 800 businesses in the area. I'm looking forward to getting involved with and helping what is already a world class business district, become even better. Liverpool is going through such a great period of economic growth, especially with The International Festival of Business taking place next year; it's an exciting time to be here at Commercial District BID."

Bill Addy, chief executive of Liverpool BID Company, said: "Jim is a fantastic candidate whose distinguished career meant he was the perfect person for the role. His role at English Partnerships and later at Liverpool Vision pays testament to what he will now do at Commercial District BID. Furthermore he is a stalwart of this city; his reputation alone will help further some of the great work we are doing at Commercial District BID."
