ISG open day for ACC extension

ISG, main contractor on the £40m extension to the Arena & Convention Centre Liverpool, is holding a meet-the-buyer open day on Wednesday for local businesses interested in working on the development.

The open day will be held at ACC Liverpool from 10am to 2pm. ISG said it will procure "a high proportion of the materials and trade packages required to deliver the 87,000 sq ft, three-hall building from locally based specialist firms."

ISG also pledged to employ a significant number of trade apprentices to help deliver the waterfront development. ISG's training partners, Liverpool in Work, and Liverpool Community College, will be in attendance at the open day event to explore the apprenticeship opportunities available to interested trade contractors.

Jim Parker, managing director North West at ISG, said: "This event is an open invitation to all those high quality construction trade specialists looking to learn more about the opportunities associated with this keynote Liverpool scheme. The region has a wealth of skills and expertise that we are looking to deploy on the construction of Exhibition Centre Liverpool, and we are determined that the scheme will create a skills legacy that will not only benefit the local economy, but also the wider construction industry."

In its first year of operation, Exhibition Centre Liverpool is expected to host about 50 events and attract more than 250,000 visitors. It is estimated that the exhibition and event programme will support 1,300 jobs in the wider economy and contribute in the region of £40 million per year in economic benefit to the Merseyside area.
