Interserve on site at Walton Centre

Interserve Construction has started work on the £21.6m Project Arizona scheme at the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust at University Hospital Aintree.

The 125,000 sq ft building will contain clinical and non-clinical accommodation, with a neuro-rehabilitation unit, outpatient department, clinical trials facility and pain management clinic.

Using low-energy Passivhaus principles, the construction uses materials and processes that increase the insulation values and air tightness of the building.

Interserve is using a mix of prefabricated and traditional construction, which it said offered best value and would provide the certainty of delivery associated with a traditional build.

The scheme will provide the trust with some surplus space, which can be leased to a third party tenant, creating an additional source of revenue for the hospital.

The project team includes architect Gilling Dodd; Sweett Group as cost consultant; structural engineer Capita Structures; and mechanical and electrical engineer Aecom.

Completion is due in September 2014.
