Industrial deals stack up as The Bear goes to Gelert

Outdoor equipment and clothing specialist Gelert has taken The Bear, a 103,073 sq ft distribution facility in Widnes, in the latest in a strong run of significant industrial deals in recent weeks.

The letting, advised by the North West industrial agency team at CB Richard Ellis, will see Gelert take the unit on the Ditchfield Road site on a 15-year lease. CBRE was acting on behalf of Threadneedle Property Investments.

Howard George, senior director of industrial agency at CBRE, commented: "The site was chosen by Gelert for the expansion of its national distribution network. The Bear is a high specification facility, with room to extend up to 150,000 sq ft. It is strategically located within the North West to access the national motorway network and, is an ideal site for Gelert."

The deal follows last month's letting by Goodman of the 210,000 sq ft Pioneer 210 in Ellesmere Port to German packaging firm Prowell.

George added: "We are still seeing a substantial number of industrial lettings being undertaken in a difficult market. Already in this quarter we have let 210,000 sq ft in Ellesmere Port, 50,000 sq ft in Chester, 130,000 sq ft in Winsford and now 103,000 sq ft in Widnes.

CBRE were joint agents with King Sturge.
