Iliad plots further Ropewalks flats

Iliad has submitted a planning application for two residential blocks within the Ropewalks area of Liverpool, next to a student accommodation scheme completed by the developer in 2013.

Designed by Tim Groom Architects, the St Michael’s II project would include 120 apartments targeted at families, on a site at Grenville Street and Upper Pitt Street.

The application applies for permission to demolish a community centre currently on the plot, the development of two buildings staggered in height to up to seven storeys, and the renovation of a disused train tunnel vent shaft to turn it into a light feature.

St Michael’s II also includes a 2,500 sq ft commercial unit on the ground floor.

The first phase of St Michael’s was a 260-bedroom student accommodation block which opened in 2013.

Liverpool City Council needs to look at access through and between these sites, severally old streets were blocked off by previous developments cutting off the routes through from Ropewalks to the burgeoning Baltic Triangle district, These pedestrian routes should be reinstated to enable easy access between these two districts from as many angles as possible.
