Engineering and environmental consultancy Idom Merebrook has recruited Gavin Snowball from SCP to lead a new transport planning team.
Derbyshire-headquartered Idom Merebrook now employs 21 people in its Manchester office. The firm is part of the IDOM group, an international engineering, architectural, and consulting firm based in Bilbao, Spain, with more than 2,700 professionals around the world.
Snowball spent eight years at SCP, working on sectors including residential and retail, with specialist knowledge in transport micro-simulation modelling.
Idom Merebrook's move into transport planning service follows the recent introduction of increased UK rail capabilities, with a specific focus on the development of high-speed rail systems. Idom Merebrook's rail capabilities include design and engineering required to construct and operate a high-speed rail project, from initial conception to planning, infrastructure, superstructure, track, stations, terminals, power supply and electrification systems.
David Spacey, technical director, Idom Merebrook, said: "There is huge potential for developing an integrated package of services for our clients in the UK, with transport planning a key piece in the puzzle of combining a comprehensive package of services needed during the feasibility and planning stages of development.
"I feel there is a particular benefit for larger scale developments where environmental impact assessment, air and noise assessments and transport planning services, amongst other disciplines, can be offered as a single comprehensive package. Our objective is to offer a complete service, from the initial concept of the project to achieving planning permission and through the construction phases of a development."
Idom Merebrook Manchester, based on Oxford Street, has worked with Peel and Blackpool Zoo among others.
