Housing approved for RAF Sealand site
Nexus Planning has secured permission for 283 homes in Flintshire on behalf of Countryside Properties.
The brownfield site, situated on the edge of Garden City, forms a part of the £95m Northern Gateway scheme. Flintshire Council had previously expressed support for development of the site in 2012.
Previously the site had been occupied by RAF Sealand, however, has been disused and vacant for a number of years. The scheme received seven letters of objection, detailing concerns about increased traffic and rubbish collection.
The application’s approval last Wednesday covered the provision of almost 300 homes for sale and rent, as well as the remediation of the site. The houses will range between two, three and four bedrooms, and will centre around a public open space.
Andrew Farrow, Flintshire Council’s chief planning officer backed the plan’s approval, subject to the provision of 28 affordable homes for Wales & West Housing Association.
