Hoopers appoints Raylian for department store fit-out

Privately-owned retail group Hoopers has appointed international store designer Raylian to renovate its department store in Carlisle.

Work has now started on the project which is due to last around three months. Retaining some of the original features, Raylian will be starting with the menswear section on the ground floor, and then installing a new cookshop and linen department on the second floor.

Victoria Farley, general manager of Hoopers, said: "We want the store to retain its heritage, but know from talking to our customers they want us to make it a showpiece that Carlisle will be proud of, and that they will enjoy visiting. The new look will make a firm statement about the designer labels that we sell and to endorse Hoopers as the City's fashion leader."

A new boutique-style cosmetics and fragrance area will open in time for Christmas trading.

The 30,000 sq ft building formerly traded as Bulloughs before the family owners of the same name sold it to Hoopers in 2006.

Proposals are being discussed to improve the public realm in Castle Street and the wider historic core area.
