Homes proposed at former Itron site

Miller Homes has submitted a planning application for 282 houses and flats on the former Itron gas meter factory in Talbot Road, Stretford near Old Trafford, designed by Calderpeel.

The factory has been empty since Itron closed the facility at the end of 2016.

The scheme will cater for a mix of potential homeowners, with 91, two to four bedroom homes designed for families, and 191 studio and one to two bedroom apartments, suitable for young professionals, students and overseas investors.

David Brackley, technical director at Miller Homes North West, said: “This is a very exciting time for Stretford with the ambitious masterplan set to truly transform the area into a desirable and sought after location for living, leisure and learning.

“We are delighted to submit our plans for the redevelopment of the Itron site in Stretford into a stylish development of contemporary new homes, complementing the wider masterplan.

“Our plans have been well considered and we believe the design and range of accommodation we are proposing will provide attractive new housing opportunities for those already living in the area as well as helping entice more people to become part of a vibrant new community.”

Mark Massey, director of Calderpeel Architects, scheme: “It’s a scheme that’s been crafted to do justice to such a prominent site that lies between two major gateways into the city centre.”

Other consultants involved in developing the proposals include GL Hearn Planning Consultants, TPM Landscape, SCP Traffic Consultants and Hydrock Consulting.

Great to see some quality, contemporary housing proposed for Stretford. Let’s hope this will provide the impetus for Trafford Council to extend the boundaries of their (supposedly) ‘Civic Quarter Masterplan’ to encompass the wider area and not just focus on the LCCC / UA92 sites.
