Homes approved on Lowton scrap yard

Housing provider Jigsaw has secured consent to build 49 homes on a former scrap yard on Pocket Nook Lane in Lowton.

The development, which includes a mix of one-bedroom apartments along with two and three-bedroom homes, will see Jigsaw fully remediate the site starting in the autumn with completion scheduled for 2021.

Once complete, the homes will be managed by Adactus Housing Association. Funding for the development has been secured from Homes England through its share ownership and affordable housing programme.

Jigsaw’s operations director for development, Garnet Fazackerley, said: “We are delighted to receive planning permission to develop 49 affordable new homes, on a former industrial brownfield site. Jigsaw Group is committed to tackling the housing crisis by building new homes for the people in our communities. We have plans to develop over 2,000 new homes by 2022 and developments like this one bring us one step closer to that goal.”

The professional team on the project also includes Nicol Thomas.

The scheme is the latest housing development to come forward in Lowton after Wigan planners backed proposals by Alderwood Homes to build 24 properties on a site alongside the East Lancs Road. This secured planning permission in April this year.

Shouldn’t they sort out their existing tenancies prior to acquiring more?
