Home Bargains signs at Project Jennifer

The discount retailer has agreed terms on a 20,000 sq ft unit at St Modwen’s Project Jennifer on Great Homer Street in Liverpool.

The store sits within the 80,000 sq ft District Centre, which is set to open in summer 2017.

TJ Morris, the parent company of Home Bargains, was founded in Liverpool and is still headquartered in the city. Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “The Great Homer Street area is where our family’s retail roots began. We are thrilled to be opening here.”

Paul Batho, projects director at St Modwen, said: “A successful local and national brand, TJ Morris is the largest employer on Merseyside. We’re really pleased to announce its commitment to Great Homer Street where over 70 new jobs will be created.

“We’re seeing real progress being made, with construction work having begun on the new Sainsbury’s supermarket earlier this month. Home Bargains’ commitment will further strengthen the attractiveness of the new District Centre. We are currently in detailed discussions with other potential occupiers and look forward to making further announcements in the near future.”

Hitchcock Wright & Partners and Colliers International are joint agents on Project Jennifer. TJ Morris was represented by Bennett, its nationally-retained agent.

McLaughlin & Harvey is the main contractor on the 67,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s store. St Modwen has appointed Caddick Construction on the District Centre.

Don’t we need a few local independent shops too please? The market has suffered a lot since it was squeezed onto the site its on. And a lot of the old guard have gone sadly! It ain’t what it used to be! Cant some of the units be given over to the market traders there used to be a fabulous home wares shop that had lamps and mirrors in the shop part – gone. Butchers – gone. Chandlers – gone!
