The company, part of housebuilder and construction firm Torus Group, has appointed Alison Brown as maintenance director, responsible for leading repair projects across the group’s social housing portfolio.

HMS manages planned building repairs and maintenance programmes for the entire Torus portfolio, totalling around 40,000 homes across Cheshire, Merseyside and Liverpool City Region.

It also manages public and private sector contracts and projects for a variety of sectors including housing, education, health and retail.

Prior to joining HMS, Alison was a director at her own company, Dharl, and before that was regional managing director for Mears.

Brown, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the social housing sector, a Masters in business and a degree in housing management and development, said:  “Since being a teenager, I decided I wanted to work in the social housing sector, after having a weekend job working in an extra care supported living scheme and seeing the impact that quality homes had on people’s lives.”

She added: “What attracted me to the role at HMS is the opportunity to be part of an organisation that seeks to balance commercial drive with customer service focus.

“HMS’ operating model of improving existing services, and its social commitment to the people who live and work in its communities’ is unprecedented and contributes towards improving the lives of the people of Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington.”

Paul Worthington, managing director of HMS, added: “The whole team is thrilled to welcome Alison on board and use her experience to continue our expansion.”
