HKR team start own practice

Architects in the Manchester office of national group HKR have left and set up on their own after HKR decided to close the regional base.

The new firm, called 5 Plus Architects, has been founded by Phil Doyle, Jon Matthews, Adam Thornton, Paul Norbury and Carly Grice.

5 Plus is based in Grange House on John Dalton Street in Manchester city centre and will offer interior design, masterplanning, graphics and branding services as well as architecture.

HKR has put the Manchester office into administration and relocated work to its London office. HKR designed BAM's speculative office scheme in St Peter's Square, Stockport, as well as Chancery Place and The Hive in central Manchester and worked on the Wirral Waters plans for Peel.

No one from 5 Plus was available for comment when contacted by Place.
