High winds close Old Hall Street

Old Hall Street in Liverpool city centre was closed on Monday, between Leeds Street and Brook Street, due to high winds.

Merseyside Police took the decision to close the road over health and safety concerns caused by a loose piece of metal on the Plaza building.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were unable to raise a platform to deal with the loose metal due to the high winds. This is now unlikely to take place until Tuesday, so the road will remain closed for the rest of the day.

Liverpool City Council said it is putting in traffic management measures around Rumford Place so that motorists can access the Capitol Car Park during this closure.

The windy weather also caused Paradise Street within Grosvenor's Liverpool One shopping district to close on Monday after a glass panel came loose from an apartment block in Bridge Street and shattered.

No injuries were reported in both incidents.
