Harbur targets social housing

Manchester-based Harbur Construction has hired Philip Newton from Oce UK, part of the Canon Group, as business development manager.

Newton will be tasked with expanding Harbur's order book in the affordable housing market.

In the past 12 months, Harbur has delivered a £1.5m 16-unit scheme in Trafford and a £5m 43-unit development in Salford, both for Great Places Housing Group.

Harbur Construction is based at Manchester Business Park, near Manchester Airport. The company was founded in 2009 and employs 21 staff with a turnover of £16m.

Newton said: "Harbur is in a great position for future growth. We have a very prolific order book for the next two years and have a very sustainable business model.

"The company has built up an impressive track record in the affordable housing market and this is an area we feel represents great opportunities. We understand this sector better than most and the government is making huge investment as it aims to stem the slump in house building."

Christian Bury, managing director, added: "As we grow it is important we have leadership on key business functions. With Philip on board our business development process will be much more strategic and we will be able to leverage our specialist areas."
