GVA Manchester co-founder dies
David Newall, a well-known figure in the regional property industry, has passed away aged 68, having suffered from leukaemia.
Newall was one of the founding partners of GVA Grimley’s Manchester office in 1979 and was widely regarded as a hugely respected member of the firm, serving for a time as senior regional partner.
In a long and successful career, Newall became established as a leading professional in the insolvency and recovery field.
Although most of his career was spent in Manchester, he also worked for six years in London as national head of the firm’s valuation division, before retiring in 2012.
GVA Grimley became just GVA in 2011, and after a time as part of the Bilfinger group was acquired by Avison Young at the end of 2018.
Chris Cheap, principal and managing director of Avison Young’s Manchester office, said: “David will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He, along with a small group of others, established the GVA office in Manchester and he was fundamental in shaping the business we have today.
“His sharp valuer’s mind and likeable personality made him a first-class professional who was loved by both colleagues and clients.”
