Gubay submits plans for Edge Lane problem site

Property developer Albert Gubay's Derwent Holdings has submitted an outline planning application to build a leisure development including a cinema and exercise, hydrotherapy and rehabilitation centre on the former Advent car dealership site on Edge Lane, Liverpool.

The proposal for the scheme by the Kwik Save and Total Fitness founder includes car parking and servicing facilities.

The site is one of three on Edge Lane over which Isle of Man-based Gubay is locked in a legal battle with city councillors.

Liverpool City Council and Derwent have been in a dispute for a number of years over the firm's plans for the area.

The council has demanded that Gubay begin by demolishing the derelict Rugs 2 Go and Klaussners stores, and tidy up the former Traveller's Rest pub site.

Derwent Holdings wants to incorporate the sites into a £200m overhaul of neighbouring Edge Lane retail park, which Gubbay also owns.

No-one from Derwent Holdings was available for comment.
