Great Places starts on Salford houses

Great Places Housing Group has started work on new family homes in Salford.

A total of 26 two bedroom terraces are being transformed into 11 three bedroom and two four bedroom family homes at Alder Street, a £2.8m development that will also include 17 new build two, three and four bedroom homes.

Great Places is working in partnership with architects MBLA and construction firm Southdale, which has an office in Warrington and is building the scheme between the Fitzwarren Street development, completed by Great Places last year, and Urban Splash's Chimney Pot Park.

Great Places said the idea behind Alder Street was to create a development that took the best aspects of the neighbouring schemes and combined it with a fresh and individual new style.

Great Places hopes to repeat the success of homes for shared ownership at Fitzwarren Street which were all reserved within a couple of weeks of the sales launch, despite the economic downturn.

A total of ten homes will be made available for sale to first time buyers through Great Places' ownership division, Plumlife, and 20 will be for affordable rent.

The Homes & Communities Agency has invested £1.15m towards the development, which is being carried out in partnership with Salford City Council.

Stephen Porter, chief executive of Great Places Housing Group, said: "We've been working in Seedley and Langworthy for many years, helping to make it a popular place to live, and we're delighted to be back again at Alder Street.

"Chimney Pot Park has lots of single, professional people and couples and Fitzwarren Street has more families. We're aiming for Alder Street to be a really diverse and exciting place to live that's home to a real mix of all sorts of people."

Great Places said it expects the new homes to be completed by spring next year.
