Grand Central contest gathers pace

DTZ will next week begin the competitive dialogue process to select a development partner for Stockport Council to take forward the redevelopment of part of the Grand Central site in the town centre.

The 10.4-acre plot has been offered to the market for a mixed-use office-led scheme and a developer is expected to be selected by the end of 2011. There could also be a hotel and parking within the development.

The council appointed DTZ to help them put together a development brief and market the opportunity after acquiring the site in January for around £15m from Deloitte, administrator of Targetfollow Property Holdings, a subsidiary of Targetfollow Group.

Hopes are growing that Stockport can at last capitalise on its strong transport links and workforce after largely missing out on the regeneration boom of the last decade.

GVA is marketing another hotel and office development opportunity on behalf of Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund at the former Royal Mail sorting office.
